1 John 2:20 &27 NIV
20: But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.
27: As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit–just as it has taught you, remain in him.
I used to have an iPad which I had used for years but wouldn’t let it go because I loved it so much and also because I had so much stuff in it.
It had broken like 3 times and I’d fixed it. The last time it broke I couldn’t bare the shame of taking it for repairs again so, I just kept using it like that.
So, on one of my husband’s trips, he bought me a new iPad with better accessories and software.
But you won’t believe it, I kept it for severally weeks and won’t even get it out of the box.
Then, one day I saw my 6-year-old with my precious iPad downloading a game! Upon enquiring, she said daddy had told her it was now hers since mummy had a new iPad!
At that point, I knew the matter had been decided and I was forced to put the new iPad to use.
Kind of like my upgrade to a new iPad with more accessories and new software; with the Holy Spirit, our old, weak and ordinary selves is upgraded to a better version – with Him we can do things that we would not ordinarily be able to do.
Jesus told us in Acts 1:8 that we would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us…so the Holy Spirit is our upgrade from Jesus. The extra that upgrades us to a better version of our previous self. Ordinary me + The Holy Spirit = Spirit-ordinary me.
Child of God, our father has called us to be His heroes and the Holy Spirit is the necessary extra required to be one.
But unfortunately most of us leave him in a box like I did my new iPad because the ordinary is what feels familiar and comfortable.
Without the Holy Spirit the self-version of us will not be heroes. We need the executive arm of the Godhead that is active on earth today.
The bible said in Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
As soon as Jesus was baptized with the Holy Ghost, He began to do extraordinary things and perform miracles, the first being the turning of water to wine at Cana.
Another example is the Apostles; despite being with Jesus for a couple of years, Jesus would not permit them to launch out to full ministry until the Holy Ghost came upon them. After the Holy Ghost came, they took the city by storm.
The same Spirit that empowered Jesus while He was on earth, the same Spirit that empowered the apostles while they were on earth, is available to fill us and also empower us to bless the community and nations around us.
HOW DO WE RESPOND/WHAT IS REQUIRED?
- Seek him: Ask the King-Father for the outpouring of his Spirit. Luke 11:13
- Acknowledge him: The Holy Spirit is a person and hence has feelings. Paul wrote, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
- Obey him: That you acknowledge someone doesn’t necessarily mean you obey them.
- Intimate fellowship: Before you ask… No, acknowledging and obeying doesn’t equate fellowship. I can acknowledge someone; even do what he asks me to do but not necessarily have fellowship with him. Have an intimate relationship through spending time together in prayer and reading the scriptures.
We can go from ordinary to spirit-ordinary if we choose to filled with the Holy Spirit and not ignore him or leave him in a box.
Today, I invite you to ask, acknowledge, seek His counsel and wisdom in all things and obey his promptings and there will be no limit to the things he can accomplish through you.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit. As we submit to Him , may we accomplish feats for You and Your Kingdom in Jesus Name, Amen.
